Joint Council for Solid Waste Management in Bethlehem – Organizes awareness campaigns on solid waste management

The Joint Council for Solid Waste Management in Bethlehem Governorate and the Palestinian Society of Sewage Engineers, in cooperation with Bethlehem University and the Maryus Sisters School, conducted an environmental awareness campaign on waste sorting and recycling, especially the organic part under the title “Clean Land Green Land”. This project is part of the project “Raising the Capacity of the Joint Solid Waste Management Council in Bethlehem and Hebron”, funded by the Italian Consulate General in Jerusalem – the Palestinian Municipal Support Program. PMSP through the Ministry of Local Government – General Administration of Joint Councils.
The campaign lasted for three days (16-18) September 2013 in Bethlehem, where its activities included a number of awareness activities, including awareness lectures targeting the students of Bethlehem University and students of the St. Joseph’s School of Sisters by Ms. Bruna Decarte from the Society of Engineers. Palestinian Sewerage and Eng. Iyad Abu Rdainah – Executive Director of the Joint Services Council for Solid Waste Management in Bethlehem. The lectures focused on the issue of solid waste management and its recycling mechanism, especially organic materials, in addition to talk about sanitary landfill in Minya area and future projects. In addition to the dissemination of several awareness points on the campus where the students participated in the dissemination of information and distributed various publications. Activities also included clean-up campaigns on the campus and surrounding streets and inside the Sisters of Maryus School. The campaign was attended by university students, schools, staff of the Joint Solid Waste Management Council and representatives of the Palestinian Sewage Engineers Association
