The Joint Services Council for Solid Waste Management in cooperation with Bethlehem Municipality, Beit Jala, Beit Sahour, Ministry of Local Government and Police, with the support of JICA, conducted an awareness campaign targeting public and private cars, pedestrians and shop owners at important crossroads in the governorate From the national campaign launched by the Ministry of Local Government “2019 Year of Hygiene and Minimization of Solid Waste”.

The campaign was launched in Bethlehem city in front of the Nativity Square in the presence of volunteers from the Scout Movement and municipalities and officials from ministries and official authorities and letters opened by the mayor of Bethlehem / Chairman of the Joint Services Council lawyer Anton Salman, where he stressed the need for environmental awareness and that Bethlehem launched a “Clean Green Bethlehem” campaign two years ago to raise environmental awareness in the city, followed by a speech by the Deputy Representative of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency JICA in Palestine Ms. Ritsuko Sakamoto, where she stressed the importance of reducing waste production and promote the concept of minimization, and reuse And recycling. In conclusion, the Governor of Bethlehem, Brother Kamel Hameed, talked about the importance of recycling and reducing waste in the homeland, because the capacity of landfills has become limited and must reduce the production of individual waste in order to reach a sustainable society. The launch was moderated by Mr. Suleiman Abu Mufreh, Director General of the Joint Services Councils Department of the Ministry of Local Government.
Volunteers were then distributed to work points where posters and leaflets were distributed to vehicles, pedestrians and shopkeepers on the need to minimize waste and maintain cleanliness in public places and spaces.
